URLIN SECOND AT MID-OHIO

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

URLIN SECOND AT MID-OHIO

LONDON, ONT., CAN. (August 13, 2002)- JW Urlin scored a second-place finish
Sunday, as the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship held a pair of races
over the weekend at the famous 3.634-km, thirteen-turn Mid-Ohio Sports Car
Course near Lexington, Ohio. Urlin did not finish the other race of the
weekend after a late-race tangle ended his run.

Urlin qualified fourth and second, respectively, for the races, Rounds Nine
and Ten of the thirteen-round championship, and was optimistic of extending
his streak of top-four finishes, that extended back to May. Unfortunately,
the streak ended in race one, on Saturday, less than half a lap from the
finish. After holding third for much of the 22-lap sprint, Urlin slowed and
fell to fourth on lap eighteen. The diffuser (an aerodynamic device) had
come lose and his car’s handling deteriorated badly. Urlin struggled along,
but Anthony Massari, attempting an outside pass, clipped a rear wheel of
Urlin’s Budget Rent-A-Car/Mygale Cars/OTM Motorsports car, sending them both
off the circuit.

"The car was unbalanced once the diffuser came lose, but I thought I’d be
able to hang on for a top-five," said Urlin. "Massari tried to pass as we
were going through the esses, we touched and ended up watching the end of
the race from the gravel trap."

In race two, Urlin held second behind the polesitter, Sean McIntosh, for 10
laps before falling to third behind Ross Fonferko. At that point, a full
course caution, brought out while a disabled car was moved to a safe place,
saw the field line up behind the pace car until lap 15. When the race
restarted, Fonferko grabbed the lead from McIntosh who then fell into Urlin’
s clutches. When lap 16 began, it was Fonferko followed by Urlin, then
McIntosh. In the closing laps, Matthew McDonough, who took third from
McIntosh on lap 17, began to challenge for second, but Urlin rebuffed all
attempts and claimed his third second-place finish of the season.

"The Budget Rent-A-Car/Mygale Cars/OTM Motorsports car was obviously working
very well again this weekend, thanks to my engineer, Dan Campbell, and my
dad (former stock car racer, Russ Urlin)," said Urlin. "It was also very
nice to have Mygale’s head of chassis design and engineering here from
France this weekend so that he could have a first-hand look at how his car
is doing in North America."

Urlin was third in the Zetec Championship before this weekend and, although
Saturday’s DNF (did not finish) was a set back, there are still
opportunities to climb with three races left in the season. There is now a
full two-month break in the schedule before the next event at Road Atlanta
on October 12.
