WRQ Helps Boyer Truck Parts Integrate Legacy Assets With Web-based Customer Applications

    SEATTLE--Aug. 12, 2002--

WRQ Verastream Will Unlock Data and Applications in Compaq OpenVMS System to Build Online Customer Self-Service Center

WRQ, Inc. today announced that Boyer Truck Parts chose WRQ(R) Verastream(TM) to develop a Web-based order management system and customer self-service applications powered directly by their legacy host systems.
Minnesota-based Boyer Truck Parts, one of the largest wholesale distributors of light- and heavy-duty truck parts, has more than 3,000 customers including large parts dealer networks and large trucking fleets. By adapting and reusing legacy systems, the company has found a way to more aggressively target new business opportunities, while improving customer service.
Previously, all customer orders were placed via phone or fax, and then keyed into a VAX system running ADP's enterprise resource planning software on OpenVMS. This labor-intensive process kept the sales team focused on order entry and status calls, rather than actively pursuing new opportunities. Streamlining the order entry process will save time and resources. More importantly, self-service options on the Boyer Web site can improve the customer experience with enhanced ordering capabilities.
In order to adapt the data and business processes in the VAX system, as well as a warehouse management system running on top of an Oracle database, Boyer Truck Parts will use WRQ(R)'s Verastream integration software to identify and then to build reusable components that capture key business logic and data. The reusable Verastream components will then be easily combined into a composite Web application.
In less than three weeks, the IT staff learned how to model the VAX applications and create components with Verastream. Boyer Truck Parts expects that they will begin rolling out their online ordering system within the next few months.
Dealers will be able to build and save sales quotes, place orders or view their order status online. Customers will be notified via e-mail when their order ships, receiving a tracking number and a link to the shipping carrier's site. At any time, dealers will be able to click on a link to get a live salesperson on the phone. Dedicated accounts will have customized lists of online inventory to choose from, making the ordering process even more efficient.
"We knew that we had to streamline our order and distribution process if we wanted to continue expanding the business," said Eric Radtke, IT director of Boyer Truck Parts. "We had successfully used WRQ Reflection(R) for several years, and knew WRQ would deliver solid products. Verastream provides the tools to isolate key business logic and data and create a more intuitive ordering process. Now our sales reps will spend less time troubleshooting and more time building the business."
Radtke has plans to continue expanding his Web application with Verastream. Eventually, Boyer Truck Parts will use the system for business intelligence purposes, monitoring buying patterns and creating tailored marketing promotions for top-grossing customers. Boyer Truck Parts has plans in place for implementing this entry order site globally, further stretching the company's reach to new customers.
