Montgomery Delivers Career Best Finish In Front of Hometown Crowd 


 

Nashville, Tenn. (August 9, 2002) - The fans that came to the Nashville Superspeedway to cheer on their local ARCA RE/MAX Series hero, Chase Montgomery, definitely got their money's worth on Friday night. The 18-year-old Mt. Juliet, TN, rookie put on a great show for his hometown crowd, brining home a career best third-place finish. 

 

"It feels awesome to be able to perform this well at home," Montgomery said.  "Some of these people in the stands have been watching me race for a few years now and they probably never thought I'd get this far."

 

Montgomery started ninth on the grid for the Waste Management 200, but with quick pit stops and a smart race strategy was able to earn a top-three finish.

 

"I can't say enough about my team.  They are an outstanding group of guys who give 110% out there. The pit strategy and great stops were really key to our great finish."

 

On the final lap Montgomery was running in the second position behind race winner Frank Kimmel. In a smart decision, the #27 team decided to wave the #53 machine of Robert Burroughs by on the last lap.

 

"He (Burroughs) had a fast car all weekend," Montgomery said. "He was faster than us so we let him by. Second place would have been nice, but we'll settle for third and take our car home in one piece."

 

The great finish was extra special for Montgomery as he ran his #27 Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the Nashville Ronald McDonald House in a fundraising effort.

 

"It really gave me a different sense of purpose out on the track this weekend.  Having the Ronald McDonald House on my car gave me an extra incentive to run well."

 

Montgomery remains fourth in the driver standings and second in the rookie of the year battle.
