Ed Carpenter, driver of the No. 2 Menards/Jack K. Elrod Co./Futaba/Delphi Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone in the Infiniti Pro Series, won the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series event last night at Salem Speedway in Salem, Ind. After qualifying fifth for the Infiniti Pro Series race at Kentucky Speedway, Carpenter, 21, hopped a helicopter to Salem (Ind.) Speedway and led the final 16 laps for his second straight Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series victory at the famed 1/2-mile paved oval. Carpenter took the lead from Eric Gordon on Lap 35 to record the victory, beating Gordon by nearly five car lengths at the checkered flag. Aaron Fike, who drives the No. 91 Hemelgarn Racing Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone in the Infiniti Pro Series, finished eighth in the USAC midget race at Salem.

ED CARPENTER (No. 2 Menards/Jack K. Elrod Co./Futaba/Delphi Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone): "I love this place (Salem). I've always loved this place, and we've been fast in the past in midgets. I am going to have to come back to this place, no matter what I'm doing next year. We just had a better car. I got a break in traffic, and we just didn't have to abuse our equipment."

Jason Priestley, driver of the No. 7 HomeMed Pharmacy Dallara/Infiniti/Firestone, was seriously injured Aug. 11 in a crash during an Infiniti Pro Series practice session at Kentucky Speedway, said Dr. Henry Bock, medical services director of the Indy Racing League. Priestley was transported by air to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Ky. Updates will be released by the Indy Racing League when available.

·There have been four Infiniti Pro Series events, and A.J. Foyt IV has won three. Cory Witherill won the event at Nashville.

·Ed Carpenter had a career-best finish of second today. His previous best finish was third in July at Michigan.
