ZETEC CHAMPIONSHIP PRESSENCE FELT IN CANADA

	ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (August 7, 2002)—This past weekend North America’s
premier street circuit race was contested in Canada, with the Le Grand Prix
de Trois-Rivieres. While not on the event schedule, as in years past, the
Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship presence was still felt.
	For the race savvy Quebec fans, the highlight of the weekend is always the
CART Toyota Atlantic Championship race, which has numerous links to the
Zetec Championship. Zetec Championship alumni, Alexander Figge, Alex Garcia
and Carl Russo all contested the prestigious race, with varying results. Not
limited to drivers, the Atlantic race also featured former Zetec
Championship crew chief Brian Halahan, the chief mechanic on Garcia’s car,
former Zetec Championship owner Steve Wulff, who owns Performance
Development & Racing, former Zetec Championship owner Dede Rodgers, who owns
DSTP Motorsports, former Zetec Championship team manager Jim Griffith, who
is the Sigma Autosport team manager and current Zetec Championship owner Ian
Willis, who is an engineer with Sierra Sierra Racing. Willis lead the way,
with Sierra Sierra Racing finishing third in its Atlantic Championship
debut.
	The feature race on Saturday at Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres this year
was the American Le Mans Series. Capturing the attention of the sellout
crowd was the appearance of local driver and former Zetec Championship star
Marc-Antoine Camirand. Camirand, who holds numerous records in the Zetec
Championship, competed in the LMP 675 class with Archangel Motorsports,
which is owned and operated by former Zetec Championship driver Mike
Johnson. After a spectacular crash in qualifying, Camirand and his co-driver
Ben Devil drove a superb race. The duo were leading the LMP675 class with
two minutes remaining in the race, when the team suffered an engine failure,
dropping them to second place. Camirand’s driver proved to rewarding, as
ALMS founder and owner, Dr. Don Panoz, met with Camirand after the race and
offered an opportunity to test with his Panoz LMP 900 team in the future. In
addition to Camirand, former Zetec Championship driver Andy Lally drove in
the LMP 900 class with Intersport.
	The Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship season continues with Rounds Nine
and Ten at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, August 10-11, racing conjunction
with the CART FedEx Championship.
