NOTES OF INTEREST: Fresh from the 2.5-mile Pocono triangle to the
1.33-mile concrete Nashville Superspeedway, the versatile ARCA RE/MAX
Series is set to make their 2nd appearance of the year on the Nashville
oval. From Nashville, the world’s most diverse tour heads to the
Springfield, IL 1-mile fairgrounds dirt oval before steering for the
half-mile Winchester Speedway bullring in Winchester IN. The Waste
Management 200 will be the 4th ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Nashville
Superspeedway since the series first debuted there in 2001. 3-time
RE/MAX Series champion and current point leader Frank Kimmel has won 2
of the 3 races at Nashville. Ken Schrader, who won the inaugural event,
is the only other winner there. Kimmel is also the only former RE/MAX
Series champion entered. Drivers representing 15 states are currently
entered including 7 from Tennessee. Local Mt. Juliet TN favorite
18-year-old Chase Montgomery, entered in his father Ray Montgomery’s
Chevy Monte Carlo, is currently 4th in points headed to Nashville.
Montgomery trails Chad Blount by just 18 points in the chase for the
ARCA Rookie of the Year Award. Bowling Green KY driver Deborah Renshaw
is also entered in a Bob Schacht Motorsports Ford. Renshaw finished 8th
in her ARCA RE/MAX debut in July at Kentucky and most recently finished
11th at Pocono. Additional entrants include Chad Blount, who at just 22,
won at MIS and Kentucky earlier this year. Blount also leads in Old
Milwaukee Pole Awards with 4 over Kimmel’s 3 on the season. Blount,
still very much in the championship hunt, trails Kimmel by 120 points
headed to Nashville. Former NFL head coach Jerry Glanville is entered in
his own Loctite Ford. Glanville will run a race within the race, so to
speak, as he will be racing to raise funds and awareness for the St.
Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Sons of former
champions entered include Jason Jarrett whose father Dale Jarrett won
the ’99 Winston Cup championship, Todd Bowsher whose father Jack Bowsher
won ARCA titles in ’63, ’64 & ’65 and Billy Venturini whose father Bill
Venturini earned ARCA championships in ’87 & ’91. Jason Rudd, nephew of
Ricky Rudd, is also entered. Rudd finished 8th in his RE/MAX Series
debut at Nashville in April of this year.
