All Wheel Engineering Helps teamSMR Find Hidden Speed

Martinez, CA: Sheehan Motor Racing has been working closely with All Wheel
Engineering, LLC over the past year and a half to increase the performance
of their USTCC Subaru WRX racecar. In addition to using the popular Kartboy
products that All Wheel Engineering provides to the masses (short shifters,
shifter bushings, swaybar end-links, engine pitch-rods, etc.), teamSMR
relies heavily on All Wheel Engineering’s extensive racing experience to
address complex issues such as aerodynamic downforce and drag. Perhaps the
most important aspect of All Wheel Engineering’s support is the new addition
of a MaxQData data acquisition system to the racecar.

The MaxQData Data Acquisition System is a new and affordable data
acquisition system that allows tuners, racers, and enthusiasts to collect
important information about their car’s engine and handling performance.
With it, the user can improve a car's performance, learn to be a better
driver, and document the effects of modifications. With powerful
capabilities to show engine data real time through a standardized OBD-II
port, along with high-resolution accelerometers and GPS inputs, virtually
every aspect of a vehicles performance can be recorded and graphed. Sensor
data can be viewed in real time, track maps can be generated effortlessly
and multiple laps can be compared to find the best segment in each lap. In
addition, data can be shared with other MaxQData users and even displayed on
the internet for everyone to see.

Sheehan Motor Racing will be using the MaxQData system during testing and
the rest of the 2002 U.S. Touring Car Championship races. Data will be
collected on engine performance, braking g’s, cornering g’s, throttle
application, brake line pressure, steering inputs, essentially all aspects
of the car and driver that make up a given lap time. This powerful tool,
along with All Wheel Engineering’s analysis of the recorded data and
resulting recommendations, will allow Sheehan Motor Racing to find
additional speed hidden in the Subaru WRX.

“This is probably the biggest performance enhancing tool that has been added
to the racecar so far,” said driver Gary Sheehan. “Having the ability to go
back and analyze hard data will allow us to make important changes to the
car itself and how the car is driven. This type of objective data is
invaluable to a driver that is looking to improve his or her performance on
the track.”

“Working with teamSMR over the past year and a half has been very valuable
in developing products which are used in competition, and then brought to
the street for general consumers. The MaxQData Data Acquisition System is
one of these products. While it has the power and features of more
expensive, professional racing systems, the MaxQData product line can be
used and afforded by the average driving enthusiast.” Mark Deadrick,
Technical Director, All Wheel Engineering.
