Steeda Mustang Approved For Grand Sport I

Steeda Mustang Approved For Grand Sport I

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 5, 2002) -- Grand American Road Racing Association has approved the 2003 Steeda Q400R Mustang for competition in the Grand Sport I class of the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series. The class is currently dominated by Chevrolet Corvettes and Porsche GT3 Cup cars.

"We have been talking with a number of companies about bringing new cars into the class," explained Grand-Am Cup Technical Director Scott Spencer. "Steeda is the first to put the right pieces together to develop what looks like it will be a very competitive car."

Specifications on the car, as approved by Grand American, include a six-speed transmission linked to a supercharged 4.6-liter Ford V8 that puts out 460 horsepower. Minimum weight on the car has been set at 2850 pounds.

"We're very proud of this car," Steeda Autosports founder Dario Orlando said. "Every one of the parts we used on this car is right off our parts shelf or Ford's parts shelf. We used the right combination of minor changes to achieve major results, especially in the handling department."

Orlando added that by using existing parts the company is able to offer the car at a reasonable price. "We are going to be putting the Q400R up against other race cars that can cost twice as much as this one," he noted. "But we're hoping to show that the guy who spends the most money doesn't always win."

Shreiner Racing, currently second in the Grand Sports II point standings, has assisted Steeda in the homologation process and will be the first Grand-Am Cup team to field one of the cars. The team plans to debut the Q400R later this year, followed by a full GS I effort next season.

Steeda Autosports is a Florida-based company that specializes in high-performance street and racing parts for Ford cars and trucks. They can be reached at www.steeda.com or by calling 954-960-0774.

Grand-Am Cup will next race in the CART Grand Prix at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course, Aug.8-10.
