Gill Makes It Two for Two in the Northern Division
Quecreek Miners Attend Race
            

Jennerstown, PA (Aug. 4, 2002) -            Bobby Gill returned to the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Northern Division for the second consecutive race in the division and made it two for two when he won the Jackaroo Sauces 250 presented by Coca-Cola Saturday night at Jennerstown Speedway.

            Gill passed Northern Division leader Brian Ross on lap 175 and held on for his 11th win of the season overall. Mardy Lindley finished second with Clay Rogers in third. Eric Corbett and Jay Fogleman completed the top five.

            "We didn't have a good car early in the race," said Gill. "We made some changes to the car during our pit stop and the car came around late in the race."

Ross followed in sixth with former Series champions Jeff Agnew and Mario Gosselin following in seventh and eighth, respectively. Allen Purkhiser finished a solid ninth and Danny Sammons continued his impressive sophomore campaign in the Series finishing in 10th.

            Brian Ross won the Sunoco Pole Award but was forced to fall to the rear of the field after his spotter missed a pre-race meeting giving the top spot to Rogers. Rogers made the most of the opportunity and led the first 120 laps of the race before Lindley took the lead and remained out front until lap 126. Lindley made the most of his laps led winning the Lucas Oil Products Halfway Leader Award. 

            Series rookie competitor Scott Baker jumped to the lead on lap 127 and led for the next 10 circuits around the racetrack. Gill took the lead on lap 138 and remained out front until Ross passed for four laps. Gill retook the lead on lap 175 and never looked back while Lindely and Ross battled side-by-side for second place.

            Jeremiah Kuntz advanced 15 spots during the race to win the W.J. Plemons Hard Charger Award while Corbett collected Miller Lite Rookie of the Race honors. Rogers led the most laps during the race to win the Southern Pride Lap Leader Award.

            Ross continues to lead the USAR Hooters ProCup Series Northern Division point standings by 211 points over Agnew. Lindley is third with Fogleman fourth and Philip Rondeau completes the top-five.

            The rescued miners from the Quecreek mine in Sommerset, PA were special guests of Jennerstown Speedway and USAR Saturday night. Steve Peles, co-owner of Jennerstown Speedway, was excited to have the special guests.

            "We wanted to offer the Quecreek nine an opportunity to come out and enjoy a night of racing with their families," said Peles. "They all live in our community and we wanted them to come out and have fun."
