BMW Expands Communications Network Using the mPhase Traverser Digital Video and Data Delivery System
NORWALK, Conn.--Aug. 5, 2002--mPhase Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: XDSL), the leading designer of innovative solutions for the delivery of broadcast digital television and high-speed data solutions over copper wires, has received two additional purchase orders from BMW Manufacturing Corp.BMW marks mPhase's first foray into an industrial setting. Given the success of the mPhase/BMW relationship, evidenced by BMW's subsequent purchase orders and their ongoing willingness to serve as a reference for mPhase, mPhase plans to expand its marketing efforts in the commercial/industrial and residential campus market.
In late 2000, BMW implemented the BMW TV Network, a system designed to provide effective communications to more than 4,000 associates throughout its Upstate South Carolina manufacturing facility. The world-renowned car manufacturer is using the mPhase Traverser(TM) Digital Video and Data Delivery System to transport customized television content to associate team areas throughout its facility. Given the events over the past year, the BMW TV Network has played an increasingly important role for BMW and its ability to keep its associates informed.
In selecting the Traverser System, BMW has been able to set up and expand its communications network utilizing the already-installed copper telephone wire in the plant. The Traverser avoids having to interrupt production efforts in order to wire the plant with coaxial cable or fiber. In addition, according to Kenn Sparks, Manager of Corporate and Associate Communications, "We have found the Traverser System to be reliable, with little 'down time.' The system is easy to operate, requiring little on-going maintenance. With a small amount of training, our communications department here at BMW has had no problem supporting the system." Perhaps the strongest testament to BMW's satisfaction with the Traverser and cue that the campus-market might hold opportunity for mPhase, Mr. Sparks added, "As a manufacturer of performance automobiles, BMW expects the same high level of performance in the products we use for communications. We have found the Traverser to be a high quality communications tool."
