Kyle Herder claims first Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship class

SHANNONVILLE, ON - Gold Kart's Kyle Herder has claimed the first - of four
available - class championships in the inaugural Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting
championships with a second place in round 7 of the series that took place
at Shannonville Motorsports Park on Aug 3. The Stouffville, ON resident
clinched the championship with two rounds remaining.

The Pfaff Motors Fast Qualifiers were Sodi-Kart's Shawn Gardner in Canada
Senior, Stouffville, ON's Pearce Herder in Canada Junior, Hot Wheels Birel
driver Alex Penfold in Formula Senior. Penfold recorded a phenomenal 140
kph reading on the radar gun down Shannonville's front straight. The final
Phaff Motors Fast Qualifier was Guelph, ON's Robert Wickens Formula Junior.

In Canada Senior, Rob Oakman won round 7 followed by Kyle Herder and Sutton
ON's Juliana Chiovitti. In round 8 it was Kyle Herder taking the win over
Shawn Gardner and Rob Oakman. In Canada Junior, Pearce Herder won round
seven over Jeff Blackburn and Travis Walker. In the eventful round 8,
Walker won with Justin Mascoll second and Daniel Morad third. Formula
Senior was all Picton ON's Mike Roth as he led flag to flag in round 7.
Following him home was Juliana Chiovitti and Les Baier. In round 8,
Chiovitti would not be denied as she passed Roth on the last lap to take
the win. Port Alberni, BC's Jimmy Pelk finished third.
"It was mine," said Chiovitti. "It was either crash or win. My Birel was
awesome in the final race and I knew where I could get him, it was just a
question of not being denied."
In Formula Junior history was made as Alison Macleod became the first
female winner of a SRFKC round as she beat Robert Wickens and Travis Walker
to the line. In round 8, Wickens rebounded to take the win over Walker and
Cale Meeks. Macleod was running at the front until being involved in an
incident on lap 7.

The objective of the SRFKC is to help foster a professional environment for
kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct
and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the
safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the
racing ladder to automobile racing.

At the end of the season, two drivers will be selected from each of the
four classes plus the two drivers from the ASN Canadian National
Championships will be invited to a one-day evaluation test at the
Bridgestone/Firestone Racing Academy at Mosport, provided they are 16 years
of age prior to the date of the test. Out of those 10 drivers, two will
earn a full scholarship to the 2003 Bridgestone/Firestone Toronto Star
Wheels F2000 racing series.
