MARTIN WINS ATLANTA SCCS RACE

Hampton, GA - John Martin III, from Cornelius, North Carolina, captured his
second consecutive Stock Car Championship Series (SCCS) victory with a win
on the road course at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, August 4, 2002.
Martin started the Sunday feature on the outside of the front row with the
second-quickest lap in Saturday time trials and exchange the lead twice
with polesitter Ron Fariss.

"I ran for the first couple of laps with Ron," Martin said. "I was just
biding my time until Ron spun coming out of turn seven."

Ron Fariss, of Lynchburg, Virginia, led the first three laps of the Atlanta
Peach Harvest Run before spinning in the transition area between the
infield road course and the banked superspeedway on lap four. Bill Bratton
was also involved in the spin that brought out the first of three cautions.

Martin and J.P. Morgan of Ether, North Carolina, engaged in a tight battle
for the lead until Fariss muscled his way from the back of the pack and
into the lead again on lap 16. Eight laps later, brake problems prevented
Fariss, a two-time SCCS winner, from making the first turn. He coasted
around the track and into the pits. He returned to finish the race one lap
down.

Martin regained the lead and held off Morgan for the final five laps of the
race. Third went to Chris Mitchum of Herndon Virginia. John Goodson of
Tallahassee, Florida, was fourth. Michael Brown of Blue Ridge, Virginia,
rounded out the top five.

The next event for the Stock Car Championship Series cars will be at the
Lowe's Motor Speedway on September 7 and 8. Practice and qualifying will
be on Saturday with the race on Sunday afternoon. For more information
