DaimlerChrysler Statement on Passage of Trade Promotion Authority
WASHINGTON, Aug. 2 -- The following is a statement by Rob Liberatore, DaimlerChrysler Senior Vice President, External Affairs and Public Policy:
"DaimlerChrysler congratulates the President and Senate and House members who worked to pass Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation. The Administration can now move forward in negotiating beneficial bilateral and multilateral trade agreements."
"For DaimlerChrysler to increase its business, we need greater access to growing foreign markets, many of which are protected by trade barriers today. TPA will help the U.S. government address many of the obstacles our U.S. made- products face in foreign markets. The U.S. auto market is already open, with 2001 car and light truck imports representing 18% of total sales. TPA will help level the playing field and provide U.S. auto exports similar treatment abroad."
