Mazda Sales Heat Up, Company Enjoys Strong Summer Postings in July

IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 1 -- Led by the record-setting sales of its new, more powerful MPV, Mazda today reported a sales volume of 26,066 units in July -- the company's best July since 1995 -- and an 8.3 increase in sales versus the same month last year. Sales of the sporty 2002 MPV jumped 56 percent in July versus the same month last year, the vehicle's best overall sales month since August 1991.

Mazda also reported impressive sales in July for its stylish Protege line as well as the versatile Tribute sport utility vehicle. Protege sales increased 16.6 percent this month, the best month for the compact since April 1992, while the Tribute boasted a sales jump of 43.3 percent.

"To have three vehicles post such strong sales is a great testament to Mazda's ability to meet the needs of the consumer," said Charlie Hughes, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations. "We're especially excited about the continued growth and demand for the new MPV, and elated that this product has been so well received by customers."

Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the sales and marketing, customer parts and services support of Mazda vehicles in the United States. Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., MNAO has more than 700 dealerships nationwide.
