TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 1 -- Fueled by strong sales of the 3.2 TL luxury performance sedan, the MDX luxury SUV and the RSX sports coupe, Acura posted record July sales of 14,329, surpassing the previous record of 13,537 set last year, Acura announced today. During July, Acura also sold its 2 millionth vehicle since the division was launched in March 1986.
The 3.2 TL, MDX and RSX all set new July sales records. 3.2 TL sales of 5,430 eclipsed the previous record of 5,183 set in July 2001 while MDX sales of 3,769 were up 50.5 percent compared to last year's sales of 2,404. Completing its first full year on the market, the RSX enjoyed record demand, selling 3,044 units, up 26.6 percent over the 2001 mark of 2,308. Acura also enjoyed strong demand for its 3.5 RL luxury sedan. RL sales of 1,050 were up 29.1 percent over last year.
"These sales records speak to the mood of the American consumer and to the strength of the Acura brand," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales. "With so much uncertainty in the financial arena, people are being extremely careful where they put their money."
