AmeriCredit Announces Major Philanthropic Initiatives for Fiscal Year 2003
FORT WORTH, Texas--July 31, 2002--AMERICREDIT CORP. announced today selection of its major philanthropic initiatives, or "Signature Events," for 2003. Signature events are those sponsored by the primary charitable organizations AmeriCredit will actively support during the fiscal year, which began July 1.
AmeriCredit's Signature Events for 2003 are the March of Dimes, Salvation Army, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and United Way, and were chosen based on team member interest, breadth of communities and people served, and availability of volunteer opportunities for AmeriCredit team members. "Our culture is based on strengthening the communities where we live and work, and our team members help to maximize AmeriCredit's efforts by volunteering their time and energy in the spirit of community," stated Michael R. Barrington, chief executive officer. "We are very proud of our culture and the efforts our team members make in helping others."
AmeriCredit supports and encourages team member participation in charitable organizations through providing a unique benefit of paid time off for volunteering for a variety of charitable organizations. "By granting full-time team members eight hours of paid time off per quarter, we are strengthening the effect that the company and our team members can have in our neighborhoods," commented Barrington.
Last year, AmeriCredit and its team members contributed more than $800,000 to local and national charities. Some of the highlights include:
-- | Raising more than $200,000 for the United Way |
-- | Sponsoring more than 1,000 runners in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure |
-- | Collecting nearly $250,000 for the March of Dimes |
-- | Adopting more than 1,500 angels from the Salvation Army's Angel Tree |
In addition to the Signature Events, AmeriCredit supports a wide variety of local and national charities through fund raising and volunteer activities, and has supported organizations such as the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Special Olympics, United Cerebral Palsy and the YMCA/YWCA, as well as many others.
