Rita Rudner And Louie Anderson To Star in SEMA Banquet Double
Feature
DIAMOND BAR, Calif. (July 30, 2002) - SEMA, the Specialty Equipment Market
Association, has booked two award-winning comedians, Rita Rudner and Louie
Anderson, to entertain the attendees at the 2002 SEMA Industry Awards Reception
and Banquet, on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Las Vegas Hilton. During this traditional
party, SEMA will present its annual awards to its Person of the Year and honor
other industry leaders.
Rudner delivers a hysterical offbeat humor covering many everyday topics. Since
the mid-1980s, Rudner has worked primarily as a comedienne. She first appeared
with the likes of Rodney Dangerfield, Bob Hope, and Johnny Carson before going
solo. Her first HBO comedy special aired in 1989. In 1990 she won the American
Comedy Award for Best Female Stand-up.
Most recently she has been performing exclusively in Las Vegas at New York New
York in the cabaret theatre created especially for her.
She debuted as a novelist with her book "Tickled Pink" in November 2001, making
her a triple-threat entertainer since she originally performed as a chorus-line
dancer in New York.
Las Vegas favorite funny man Anderson draws upon his personal life for much of his
material, poking fun at himself and telling stories about his childhood as the
tenth of eleven children. He began his comedic career upon a dare from a co-
worker. "With the first laugh," Anderson said, "I knew I was hooked (on
performing), a junkie for life."
He, too, has performed on the comedy circuit with appearances on the late evening
TV shows such as Leno and Letterman. Currently, he writes and does the voices of
the narrator, Little Louie, and Little Louie's Dad on the Fox Children's Network
animated series "Life with Louie."
Like Rudner, Anderson is a published author. His book "Dear Dad" was a 1989 best-
seller.
The SEMA Industry Awards Reception begins at 6:30 p.m., the Dinner begins at 7:30
p.m., with the SEMA awards and the Rudner/Anderson one-two combo following. The
band Ledfoot will provide the evening's musical nightcap at the adjacent "Club
SEMA" following the banquet.
