Cohesia Corporation Cited by Taft as Dynamic Example of Third Frontier Company
DAYTON, Ohio--July 29, 2002--Ohio's Governor, Bob Taft, visited Cohesia Corporation on July 23 as part of a continued effort to highlight his new Third Frontier Program, targeted at growing high-paying technology jobs in Ohio.As part of his visit, Cohesia CEO Dan Z. Sokol, shared the "roller coaster" path of financing and market development for an Ohio high technology company in the current economic climate. "Being an Ohio company, finding funding sources that allow for growth and development of a company in competition with east and west coat companies has been a challenge," stated Sokol. "We have sought and successfully leveraged funding form local, state, and federal agencies. Governor Taft's Third Frontier Program will offer significant support to companies like Cohesia and others that face this difficult funding task."
Cohesia has successfully received grants and other financial funding form the national Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the Ohio Innovation Fund, the Miami Valley Economic Development Coalition and the NCIC Capital Fund. In addition, Cohesia has also raised a significant amount of venture capital funding led by Blue Chip Venture Company of Cincinnati and GE Capital.
"Cohesia is a great example of how technology companies in Ohio, with the proper financial and infrastructure support, can dynamically grow products that help our manufacturing base and position the State as a leader in the Third Frontier," said Taft. "The Third Frontier Project is about growing more high-tech, high paying jobs for the people of Ohio. Enabling manufacturing firms to become more competitive is a vital component to achieving this goal," said Taft.
Also during his visit, Governor Taft reviewed Cohesia's MASS product and its application for Characteristic Lifecycle Management for complex parts and materials in aerospace and automotive, key industries for Ohio's industrial manufacturing base.
"The MASS solution offers aerospace OEM's and their supplier partners to completely define a part or material for manufacturing in the design process. This information can then be flowed down to the supply chain using the Internet for communication and collaboration, commented Cohesia's David Terkosky, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. This unique technology allows companies like GE Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati to effectively manage and communicate the critical characteristics of parts to their suppliers to ensure conformance to aerospace quality standards, like AS9102 and IS0 9000."
At his departure, the Governor encouraged the Cohesia employees to stay the course and to reflect on the significant achievements that have been accomplished to date due to their ingenuity and persistence.
The Third Frontier Project is the state's largest commitment ever to expanding Ohio's high-tech research capabilities and promoting start-up companies to build high-wage jobs for generations to come. Ohio will propose a new, ten-year $500 million capital improvement program to improve research facilities and initiate a $500 million bond program to recruit world-class researchers and bring state-of-the-art products to market.
Cohesia Corporation is a pioneer in the development of advanced intelligent document solutions to allow computer-automated management and application of the complex design data throughout the supply chain. The company is headquartered in Dayton, Ohio.
