Murata Introduces Smallest SAW Resonator For Remote Transmission Of Tire Pressure; Keyless Entry

SMYRNA, Ga.--July 29, 2002--Murata Electronics (www.murata.com) a world-leading innovator in electronics, today introduced its newest Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) Resonator (SARCC Series) for remote keyless entry and tire pressure monitoring applications.
The SARCC series is 45 percent smaller in area, 30 percent smaller in volume and half the weight of Murata's conventional products, making it the smallest resonator in the industry. In addition, because it uses the same packaging as other Murata SAW filters, it is more cost effective.
Murata's new SAW Resonator is available in six different oscillation frequencies, ranging from 304.30 MHz to 434.15 MHz, and four initial frequency tolerances (+/- 50 KHz, +/- 75 KHz, +/- 80 KHz and +/- 100 KHz). This variety allows engineers to choose the optimal product for a particular application.
And due to its smaller package size (3.3 x 1.5 mm) and its lighter weight (32 mg), this new resonator allows automotive electronics companies to meet demand for smaller and lighter remote keyless entry and tire pressure monitoring systems.
Murata's new, ultra-compact resonator also reduces the number of components required in an oscillation circuit and eliminates the need to adjust the oscillation frequency, reducing time and labor required during the production process.
In addition, Murata utilizes the minute-film processing and high-density mounting technology, introducing the SAW resonator in the same package as SAW filters used in portable phones. These factors contribute to the reduction in size and cost of remote keyless entry devices.
"The automotive market is seeing heightened consumer demand for more functional electronics features," said Scott Klettke, Market Segment Manager at Murata Electronics North America. "As one of the largest component suppliers to the automotive market, Murata continues to solidify its leadership position through intensive research and innovative designs that can meet this demand."
Murata's SARCC series comes in six frequencies (304.30 MHz, 315.00 MHz, 423.22 MHz, 433.87 MHz, 433.92 MHz and 434.15 MHz). Additional frequencies will be added on demand basis. Lead time for this product is 10 weeks. Additional information including data sheets can be found by visiting MENA online at www.murata.com.
