PETE REPEATS! WORMCASTLE GETS SECOND WIN, POINTS LEAD WITH VICTORY AT
LORAIN COUNTY

South Amherst, Ohio (7-27-02) by Wendy Wellman - New Haven, Indiana
driver Pete Wormcastle grabbed the championship points lead and his
second win of the season at Lorain County Speedway last Saturday night.
Wormcastle now leads Chad Guinn by a mere 10 points heading into the
final five races of the 2002 season.

“I’d like to win the championship this year,” Wormcastle said. “We did a
lot of work over the winter on the chassis and the motors, and we’ve had
a lot of luck with our chassis set ups every week so far.”

Pete’s father, Joe Wormcastle, snatched the lead position from outside
polesitter Jeff Speakman on lap eight of the 100-lap event. On lap 52,
Joe cut a tire and slipped off the track into the pit area at turn one.
Pete grabbed the lead in the Preferred Painting & Roofing-Witwer
Construction Chevrolet, successfully holding off 1999 ARCA truck series
champion Bill Withers. Withers ended the night a close second in the
Mannings USA-Hall Electronics-Wachholz Engines Ford.

“Withers and I were battling hard all the way to the finish,” Wormcastle
said. “The track was real slick at the beginning and then it got better
as the night went on. I’d like to thank Kyle Witwer and Jerry Brown of
Preferred Painting & Roofing of Fort Wayne for helping me out this
year.”

Toledo, Ohio driver John Kasmierski grabbed third place and Ed & Company
Hard Charger honors after a spin during qualifying sent him to 19th on
the starting grid in the Pat & Dandy’s Sports Bar-Top Notch Seamless
Gutter Ford. Cloyes Gear Halfway Leader award winner Joe Wormcastle of
Fort Wayne, Indiana took fourth in the Witwer Construction Chevrolet,
while North Baltimore, Ohio rookie Kevin Reeb followed at fifth in his
Accurate Logistics Ford, for his best finish of the season.

The Mark Knupp Muffler & Tire Ford of rookie points leader Brandon Knupp
snagged sixth place, with two-time series champion Robbin Slaughter, of
Columbus, Ohio close behind at seventh in the Carmen’s Vacuum-NAPA Auto
Parts Ford. Old Milwaukee Pole Award Winner Tully Esterline, of
Pettisville, Ohio was eighth in the Rev Up-Rupp Seeds Chevy after two
separate wrecks took him out of contention.

Greenville, Ohio’s Stan Maitlen took ninth in the Maitlen Racing Ford,
while Darren Jones of Fairfield, Ohio was 10th, two laps down, in the
Pierce Plumbing Ford.

The versatile ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series tackles their first dirt
