HMS Race Results from July 27th (I1)
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (July 27, 2002) - Race fans were treated to 10 exciting
feature races and a Demolition Derby tonight as the Hardeeville Motor
Speedway celebrated its 2nd Anniversary with "Pack the Track Night".
Steven Moore of St. George, SC found himself in victory lane twice in the
Mini Stock features. Jimmy Lang of Bluffton, SC and Andrew Smith of
Pooler, GA had victories in the Legends Series. Tom Haidon of Hilton Head,
SC found victory lane for the 2nd time this season with a win in the O.C.
Welch Ford Lincoln-Mercury Series, but due to not passing the post-race
inspections, Haidon was disqualified and Tommy Porter Jr. was declared the
winner giving him 26 career victories at Hardeeville, just one ahead of
Steven Moore. Don Dean was victorious again in the Xtreme Stock Division
able to hold off Tim Dasher of Bluffton, SC for the win. Glenn Mappus of
Ridgeville, SC and Hubert Into of Bloomingdale, GA split victories in the
Street Stock class and Andrew Blaske and Peter Frank of Bluffton, SC shared
the winner's circle as they won in different Road Warrior races. The
highlight of the evening was an action packed Demolition Derby. Crowd
favorite Chelsea Carr of Martinez, GA came into the evening with her eye on
winning but her car eventually stalled leaving her victom to the rest of
the field. When the smoke cleared Jim Swanson of Hilton Head, SC was the
only car running after he nailed the Volvo driven by Blaske into the
infield retaining wall ending Blaske's night and walking away with the
purse and trophy.
One lucky race fan won himself a ride in the Hardeeville Motor Speedway
Winston Cup Car, after his ride around the track with Cup Car driver Steve
Perry, the winner said "This was awesome!!" Race fans came from all across
the area to fill the stands and celebrate birthdays at the track. One
family vacationing on Hilton Head Island, SC was on hand from London,
England experiencing an auto race for the first time ever! Liz Elwes and
family, from London, England, said "this was something she will never
forget" and as she wanted to have a "true American experience."
There will be no racing next Saturday night, August 3rd but the Speedway
will be hosting the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Friday night
from 7:00 p.m. until Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. Racing returns Saturday
night, August 10th with the Xtreme Car Championships and great local racing
action. Due to popular demand, there will be a special ticket price of
$5.00 for everyone 12 years of age and older. Any child under 12 years of
age will be admitted free. This will also be a special Kid's Night with
many activities planned for kids of all ages.
