Hales Corners Speedway results -- 07/27/2002

Carlson Conquers LM Foes
At Hales Corners Speedway
By John Shea
Franklin, Wis., July 27-Chris Carlson topped the UMP late model feature
at the Hales Corners Speedway on Saturday night.
Don Scheffler was victorious in the sportsmen feature, Mike Knurr topped
the modified main event, Joe Altenhofen won the championship round of the N&S

Towing Hales Whales Triple Crown and Chris Blake took top honors in the
4-cylinder nightcapper.
Carlson led the opening five laps of the 30-lap UMP late model feature
before reigning track champ Russ Scheffler took command at lap six. Carlson
remained close, however, and used the inside line in turns three and four to
take the lead back from Scheffler at lap eight.
Scheffler dropped back to fourth place as the race worked towards a
finish as Dan Sorce took up the chase in second with Bret Sievert third. A
caution at the white flag lap set up a green-white-checkered dash for the win

with Carlson prevailing over Sievert, who got by Sorce on the final circuit.

Sorce was third, with Scheffler fourth and T.J. Dolhun fifth.
Pat Heaney led the first 17 laps of the 20-lap sportsmen feature before
Don Scheffler trapped him behind a slower car and went past to take the lead
at lap 18. Heaney chased Scheffler the final two circuits but could not get
back past as Scheffler picked up the win. Roger Lee placed third, with Don
Sorce Jr. and Mark Lewis rounding out the top five.
Mike Knurr won the caution-infested modified feature after Joe McGrath
blew a tire after leading the majority of the event. Brian Crapser finished
second, with Dan Mech third, Scott Barnharst fourth and Mike Conn fifth.
Racing continues at the Hales Corners Speedway on Saturday night, Aug. 3.

The night will be topped by a 30-lap UMP late model feature and a full
program of sportsmen, modified and Hales Whales racing, plus the new
4-cylinder division. Time trials are at 6:15 p.m., with racing immediately
following qualifying. Hales Corners Speedway is located on Hwy. 100,
one-half mile south of Forest Home Avenue in Franklin, next to Hiller Ford.
