Dowler wins pole for CASCAR Vancouver Indy
Knocks teammate Wade Lee off the front row for today's feature race

VANCOUVER, BC - All but seven of the 33 drivers who took part in Saturday
morning's second qualifying session for the CASCAR Vancouver Indy race
bettered their Friday efforts. Kevin Dowler's lap of 1:23.547 (123.495
km/h) around the temporary street circuit at Concord Pacific Place was good
enough to bump his Apollo Motorsports teammate Wade Lee from the front row
for the start of this afternoon's CASCAR Super Series race.
Defending National champion Don Thomson followed through on his plans to
improve his position and earned the second starting position on the
strength of his 1:23.738 effort. Lee's lap of 1:24.128 will put him
alongside of last week's race winner Jim Lapcevich (1:24.138) on Row 2.
By earning the pole, Dowler is in an excellent position to sweep all three
CASCAR Super Series road course events on the 2002 schedule. The Ford
Quality Care driver has already made the trip to victory lane at Mosport
Int'l Raceway and at the Toronto Molson Indy.
The grid for Round #9 was determined based on the combined best times, for
each driver, for the two qualifying sessions.
The CASCAR Super Series race is scheduled to take the green flag this
afternoon (Saturday) at 3:00 p.m.

QUALIFYING NOTES: Jeff Lapcevich bounced back to post the eighth-fastest
time on Saturday morning, after his Crime Stoppers / Fastline Chevy team
repaired front-end damage caused by a heavy impact into the turn 6
tire-barrier during Friday afternoon's qualifying session.
