COORS LIGHT TEAM FINSIHES 14th IN NEW ENGLAND 300
Marlin remains first in the Winston Cup championship points race

CONCORD, N.H. (July 21, 2002) - Sterling Marlin drove the No. 40 Coors Light
Dodge Intrepid R/T to a 14th place finish in the New England 300 at New
Hampshire International Speedway.  For the 18th straight race (Rockingham to
New Hampshire), Marlin remains the leader in the NASCAR Winston Cup
championship points standings.  He extended his points lead to 55 points
over Mark Martin who is currently in second place.  

The Coors Light Dodge started the 300-lap event in 18th position but Marlin
was already in the top-10 by the second lap.  He continued to work his way
thorough the field, reaching seventh position on lap 25.  The Coors Light
team worked on freeing up the No. 40 Dodge during pit stops throughout the
day.  Marlin said that the car was tight in the corners and loose in the
center.

Marlin raced in the top-10 for the majority of the day, until a caution on
lap 232 for debris brought the Coors Light Dodge in for a four-tire pit
stop.  During the same caution period, the majority of field took two or no
tires during the late race stop.  This put Marlin back in 25th place on the
restart on lap 239.  He now had only 61 laps to move up through the field.
The team chose to take four tires because earlier in the race when they
performed a two-tire pit stop, the car became really loose.  Marlin picked
up as many cars as possible within the 61 laps; finishing 14th in the New
England 300.

"We've got to look up the definition of track position in the dictionary on
Monday," Marlin said after the race.  

Ward Burton, driver of the No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge, won the New England
300.  Next on the schedule for the No. 40 Coors Light team is the
Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway on July 28, 2002.
