MID-OHIO TO HOST TWO WEEKENDS OF ACTION PACKED MOTORCYLE
RACING
DUBLIN, Ohio (July 17, 2002) - The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course features
two-wheeled racing action as hot as the July sun, hosting the AMA Vintage
Motorcycle Days July 19-21 and the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by
Dunlop Tire July 26-28. Both weekends feature a combination of racing
excitement and off-track fun.
The AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is an event like no other at Mid-Ohio. Ten
classes of American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) will
attack the rolling hills of the 15-turn, 2.4 mile permanent road course at
Mid-Ohio. The AHRMA Vintage Motocross and the AHRMA Vintage Trials compete
on a natural terrain dirt track built just southeast of the road course. An
additional AHRMA class will race on a dirt oval at the Ashland County
Fairgrounds, located about 25 minutes from Mid-Ohio.
There are plenty of activities away from the racing to provide entertainment
throughout the weekend. Spanish motorcycles are this year's featured marque,
becoming the first time an entire country's bikes have been commemorated.
Motorcycle enthusiasts are sure to learn something from experts such as
Craig Vetter, John Healy, Robin James and others at various seminars held
every day. Bike shows allow the rider to show their bike, and view others'.
Grand Marshal Jim Pomeroy will be on hand to sign autographs, and the Will
Stoner Swap Meet is a chance for owners to find spare parts for their
vintage bikes.
Honda rider Nicky Hayden brings a 36-point lead in the Superbike series to
Mid-Ohio for the Honda Super Cycle Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire. Two
Weisco Superbike 100 races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, highlight the
weekend. Hayden has dominated the last season and a half, winning the final
four races in 2001 on his way to a third place series finish and has won
seven of twelve races in 2002. The 20-year-old won Sunday's event last year
at Mid-Ohio. Supporting races will include SuperSport, 250 Grand Prix,
SuperStock, and Formula Xtreme.

the weekend. Riders are able to register in advance for the ride at over 80
