Cohesia Corporation Announces Major Contract from Leading Aircraft Engine Manufacturer
DAYTON & CINCINNATI, Ohio--July 15, 2002--Cohesia Corporation today announced receipt of a multi-million dollar contract from Cincinnati-based GE Aircraft Engines. The initial focus of the program is application of Cohesia's web-based MASS(R) system to the first article inspection process for GE's jet engine components. MASS(R) is Cohesia's Management & Application of Specifications & Standards system which provides electronic, web-based capability for the interpretation, distribution, and management of data for complex engineered products. GE Aircraft Engines will employ MASS(R) to generate Master Specifications(TM) for use throughout its supply chain, including internal production facilities and suppliers worldwide. The Master Specification(TM) captures all characteristics of a product including both drawing requirements and those contained in specification documents. By enabling clear communication of all product characteristics and quality requirements, the Master Specification(TM) will be part of GE's efforts to achieve six-sigma quality. The Master Specification(TM) is to be generated electronically and distributed through GE's Supply Chain Web Center. Cohesia's unique technology provides an added dimension to electronic commerce and has been described as a "game changer" by aerospace industry experts.
"We consider this the first step in a long term relationship with GE," said Dan Z. Sokol, Cohesia CEO and President. "After application to first article inspection, follow-on efforts will push MASS(R) upstream as an integral part of the design and new product introduction processes as well as the key mechanism for on-going characteristic accountability in the manufacturing process. We want to be a fundamental part of GE's six-sigma quality efforts."
GE anticipates that application of MASS(R) will significantly enhance quality as the company continues to expand its electronic commerce initiatives across a large and increasingly global supply chain.
"We engaged in a detailed search and evaluation of potential technologies and partners to help us address our need to improve and digitize our first article and quality management functions," stated Mike Umney, Leader for the Manufacturing Engineering Center of Excellence (MECoE) for the Supply Chain Division of GE Aircraft Engines.
"We had launched our own internal effort to try and address this critical operational area to improve the quality of our products for our aircraft OEM clients. The MASS application has the capability to meet and exceed our expectations, ensuring we meet FAA requirements while realizing a significant economic return for our GE Aircraft Engines business."
The GE Aircraft Engines program validates the extensive efforts Cohesia has made to address the key quality issues for major producers of aerospace systems. The program with GE builds on Cohesia's extensive experience in electronic interpretation and management of specifications and standards at producers of advanced aerospace materials.
GEAE, a division of General Electric Company , is the world's leading manufacturer of jet engines for civil and military aircraft, including engines produced by CFM International, a 50/50 joint company of Snecma Moteurs of France and GE. GEAE also manufactures gas turbines, derived from its jet engine programs, for marine and industrial applications.
Cohesia Corporation is a pioneer in the development of advanced intelligent document solutions to allow computer-automated management and application of the complex design data throughout the supply chain. The company is headquartered in Dayton, Ohio.
Cohesia's flagship product, MASS(R) is a unique software solution specifically designed to manage the technical requirements of complex make-to-specification design and manufacturing companies. Target industries include aerospace, defense, automotive, power generation equipment, transportation, electronics and their supply chains.
