Fariss looking forward to running at Charlotte
Rocky Mount, VA - SCCS points leader Ron Fariss is looking forward to
taking his number 22 Marines Monte Carlo on the road course at Lowe's
Motor Speedway on July 19. Farris has competed in a GT1 car on the road
course at the Speedway but on Friday night, he will be running a stock
car. The Lynchburg, VA, resident captured the series lead by winning the
first two races in the Stock Car Championship Series (SCCS) season.
"We have found a great series with SCCS," said Fariss. "We were able to
take a used Late Model Stock Car, liked those that run at Hickory,
Caraway, and Concord and with a few changes have a car that is proving
to be a well balanced race car. The changes included upper a-frames and
realignment of the front-end geometry and we were ready to go. The crate
engine rule is impressive; we are seeing a lot of power but being able
to keep the cost in line."
Fariss has competed in various series during his twenty years of racing,
including NASCAR, TransAm, GrandAm, and IMSA.
"We are excited with the level of competition within SCCS," stated
Fariss, "Drivers in the series are coming with backgrounds in road
racing and oval tracks."
The Stock Car Championship Series cars will take to the track for its
first of two visits to the Lowe's Motor Speedway on Friday. First
practice starts at 6:00 PM and the race will be at 9:00 PM. Spectator
gates open at 4:00PM through the tunnel gate entrance (26). For more
