CTS Corporation Awarded Second Major Belt Tension Sensor Program for Advanced Occupant Restraint System

ELKHART, Ind.--July 12, 2002--CTS Corporation , a world leader in automotive sensor and thick film technology, today announced that a second major international vehicle manufacturer has selected CTS Automotive Products to supply seat belt tension sensors (BTS) for use in passenger vehicles.
The vehicles will be built and sold primarily in North America. Prototypes have been delivered and are now being tested; production is scheduled to begin in mid-2003. The initial multi-year program will add over $10 million in new revenue, with potential revenue with this customer of over $50 million. The total market for this product is expected to exceed $150 million per year by 2006.
CTS' belt tension sensors are used in passenger vehicles as part of an occupant classification system, mandated by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208, which controls the deployment and force of passenger-side airbags. By 2006, all passenger vehicles sold in the U.S. must have an occupant classification system installed.
CTS' patent-pending BTS design was selected based on its small package size and outstanding performance characteristics.
