Company description: ADESA Corporation began operations in 1989 as ADE Management, Inc. operating one auto auction in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1992, the company went public with its stock traded on the NASDAQ. It was now up to six auctions. By 1995, having quickly grown to a chain of 16 auto auctions, Minnesota Power and Light (MPL), now known as ALLETE, acquired 80 percent and the controlling interest of ADESA. Impressed with ADESA's potential, ALLETE exercised its option to acquire the remaining 20 percent of the company in August 1996.
ADESA has grown tremendously in the automotive industry, now operating 52 auctions across North America.
