GM Gives Up On Methanol-Based Fuel-Cell Car
July 11, 2002 Kyodo News reports that U.S. car giant General Motors Corp has given up a plan to commercialize a fuel-cell motor vehicle powered by hydrogen generated from methanol, a company official said Thursday.
This is because such vehicles emit as much carbon dioxide as conventional gasoline-powered cars and thus are not as environmentally friendly as other types of fuel cell-powered cars, the official said.
