The Vortec-powered UTZ Quality Foods/Castaway powerboat set a new world record in the Super Vee Light Twin class with a speed of 106.167 mph on July 5, and the Vortec Team Extreme set a world record on that same day in the Super Vee Light Single class with a speed of 89.672 mph.
"The Vortec engines gave us a great top end," said Matt Rice, driver of the Vortec-powered UTZ Quality Foods/Castaway powerboat. "We were ecstatic with the number we ran and were very pleasantly surprised."
During the race weekend, the seven teams that comprise the Vortec Power Team competed under extreme heat conditions in their respective race divisions on the 5-mile course.
On July 7, Vortec-powered teams captured two first and two second place finishes in their respective classes. Team Extreme captured first place and High Noon Racing placed second in the Super Vee Light Single class. In the Super Vee Light Twin class, Pier 57 captured first place and UTZ Quality Foods/Castaway placed second.
"This was a rough race," said Steve Miklos, driver of the Vortec-powered Team Extreme. "There were a lot of turns and G forces on the motors. The motor ran great the whole time."
"We were consistently in the lead," said Rick Turmel, driver of the Vortec-powered Pier 57 powerboat. "The motors ran flawlessly."
