Honda to double capacity at Alabama plant -WSJ

NEW YORK, July 9 Reuters reported that Honda Motor Co. is expected to announce on Tuesday it would double capacity at its Alabama assembly plant to 300,000 units a year, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.

Honda executives would not specify models but confirmed to the Journal the second assembly line at the company's plant in Lincoln, Ala., near Birmingham, will build medium-size light trucks.

That could include the Odyssey minivan, the Acura MDX SUV or the just-launched Honda Pilot SUV, with production expected to begin in 2004, the paper said.

The plant currently employs 2,300 workers, and is expected to add another 2,000 employees.
