Davis Looks to Top the Charts at Peach State
Jefferson, GA - Kertus Davis, driver of the #0 Broadway Motor Company Chevrolet Monte Carlo is looking forward to the running of the Miller Lite 250 presented by Jennie-O Turkey Store, at Peach State Speedway located in Jefferson, GA. The USAR Hooters ProCup Series will make its second of three visits to the North Georgia track on Saturday, July 13.
When the series visited the half mile in early May, Bobby Gill collected his sixth straight win of the season, while Jason Sarvis came home in second. Davis finished the race with a career best third place finish, while Hal Goodson and Toby Robertson completed the top five.
As the 2002 USAR Hooters ProCup Southern Division season continues, Davis and the rest of the crew seem to have good luck on their side, something that they have been looking for in past seasons.
"I go to every race with the intention to win. No matter what I do in the race, I am still proud because not to many people have the opportunity to drive a race car," said Davis. So far in the 2002 season, Davis, resident of nearby Gaffney, SC, has had two top-five finishes and four top-tens.
"The guys that are real strong at Peach State are Steven Chrisitan, which this is his home track, Jason Sarvis, Hal Goodson, and you never can count out Bobby Gill," said Davis. His goals for the Miller Lite 250 presented by Jennie-O Turkey Store still remain the same; for the #0 team to record their first USAR Hooters ProCup Victory.
Another contender around the track is Michael Ritch, driver of the #28 Jackaroo Sauces Chevrolet Monte Carlo. In 1998, Ritch scored his third victory of the year. He started the race in 32nd position and still managed to led 176 out of 250 laps. In the 2002 season, Ritch has three top-fives with a third place finish at the season opener at USA International Speedway, in Lakeland, FL, and also at Coastal Plains Raceway, located in Jacksonville, NC.
"In order to win, or to a contender, you need to be the best driver on the gas pedal. Enter turn one, and let off (the gas). When you enter turn two, smoothly accelerate back on. One of the trickiest turns at Peach State is coming off turn four. The front straight is narrow and the wall leans toward the track, causing a lot of the cars to glance off the wall entering the straight-away," said Shane Huffman, driver of the #84 Jennie-O Turkey Store Ford Taurus. Huffman also collected the checkered flag as the series made a single appearance in 2001.
Pit Gates Open at 8 am with practice beginning at 11. Grandstand gates will open at 4 with the Southern Pride Pole Qualifying beginning at 4:30, followed by an autograph session, at 5:45. The green flag will fly on the Miller Lite 250 presented by Jennie-O Turkey Store at 7 pm followed by 50 laps from the Allison Legacy Series.
