Buck wins pole for CASCAR Indy race
NAPA Pontiac pilot bests own record during Saturday's qualifying session

TORONTO, ON - Robin Buck destroyed his own CASCAR Super Series Molson Indy
Toronto pole qualifying record, on Saturday morning at the Exhibition Place
street circuit. The NAPA Pontiac racer - who is the two-time and defending
winner of the race - lapped the 11-turn, 2.825 km track in 1 minute, 19.041
seconds. That translated into a speed of 128.667 km/h for the
Campbellville, ON racer. In all, five competitors were under Buck's former
track record (1:19.369), which he set in 2001.
Sharing the front row for Saturday afternoon's fourth annual CASCAR Super
Series race on the streets of Toronto will be Blue Streak Intrepid racer Al
Turner, of Barrie, ON. Turner, who finished third in last year's CASCAR
race at the Indy, set a time of 1 minute, 19.179 seconds.
Lining up behind Buck and Turner will be former Super Series champion
Kerry Micks (UFCW Taurus), Jim Lapcevich (Raceline / Fastline Chevy) and
current CASCAR champion and points leader Don Thomson Jr. (Home Hardware
Chevy). Thomson finished second in the 2001 edition of this event.
In all, 37 racers participated in the Saturday morning's half-hour
qualifying session for this afternoon's race, which is scheduled to start
at 4:45 p.m.

CASCAR NOTES: 2000 CASCAR Toronto Indy race winner Kevin Dowler and his
crew will spend Saturday afternoon putting a new engine into their Ford
Quality Care Taurus. The Sherwood Park, AB racer experienced a blown motor
just two laps into Saturday's qualifying session... Jim Lapcevich's
Raceline / Fastline Chevy was the fastest driver during Thursday
afternoon's half-hour practice session, with a time of 1 minute, 20.106
seconds. Al Turner, Kevin Dowler, Don Thomson and Robin Buck rounded out
the 'fast five' during that session.

takes the next highest starting position (33rd) based on his status as a
past champion (CASCAR Western Series). As none of the rest of the
