Weaver, Dyson Partner for Third-Straight Win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 5, 2002) -- Englishman James Weaver and rookie Chris Dyson partnered for their third-straight win in the Dyson Racing Team #16 Ford-powered Riley & Scott at the Jani-King Paul Revere 250 at Daytona International Speedway. The duo led 47 of the race's 70 laps to best the points-leading Doran Lista Racing #27 Judd-powered Dallara of Belgian Didier Theys and Swiss Fredy Lienhard Sr. Dyson's second entry, the #20 Ford Riley & Scott, finished third overall. 

In his first ever sports car race at Daytona, NASCAR driver Jerry Nadeau captured the SportsRacing Prototype II victory with Indy Racing League driver Anthony Lazzaro in the Rand Racing #7 Nissan-engined Lola. G&W Motorsports, which changed its car number from 07 to 70 for the Jani-King 250 in hopes of turning around its bad luck, was able to shake the jinx on the team and run its best race of the season to finish second place in the SRPII class and seventh place overall. 

The points-leading #8 Nissan Lola of Rand Racing had an early exit from the race with engine trouble and finished third in the class. 

Cort Wagner and Bill Auberlen captured their second-straight win in the GT class with the Ferrari of Washington #33 Ferrari 360GT. The Ferrari went a lap down when it was split from the class leader by the pace car during a caution lap, but it was able to gain its lap back later in the race when the pace car's placement worked to its advantage. The victory will move the Ferrari team and drivers up to second-place in the championship points race. The Perspective Motorsports #24 Mosler MT900 R finished second in the class, followed by the points-leading #66 Porsche GT3 R of The Racer's Group. 

Doug Goad strengthened his hold on the American GT driver points lead with a victory in the class. After running with Flis Motorsports for the first half of the season, Goad teamed with Lou Gigliotti in the LG Motorsports #25 Corvette for the Jani-King 250. In Gigliotti and the car's first appearance in the Rolex Series, it captured the class win despite a major tire blowout on the front stretch that caused major bodywork damage. Rob Morgan, who ran solo in the Morgan Dollar Motorsports #46 Corvette, finished second in the class, followed by the Heritage Motorsports #48 Mustang. 

The Jack Lewis Enterprises #72 Porsche GT3 Cup picked up its second-straight GTS win of the season. The Park Place Racing #5 Saleen S7R had led the class for nearly the entire race before suffered engine failure in the final laps. 

The Rolex Sports Car Series will travel next to Watkins Glen International for the Bully Hill Vineyards 250, part of the Sirius Satellite Radio at The Glen NASCAR Winston Cup Series weekend.
