MCINTOSH BREAKS TRACK RECORD, FINISHES SECOND AT MID-OHIO

COQUITLAM, B.C., CAN. (July 1, 2002) -This past weekend, 17-year old Sean
McIntosh, of Coquitlam, B.C., Can., set a new track record and earned a
second place finish, while competing in Round Eight of the Formula Ford 2000
Zetec Championship, during the annual
American Le Mans Series event at the challenging Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
With five races remaining, the young charger now sits fourth overall in the
race for the Zetec Championship, and second overall in the Greg Moore
“Rookie of the Year” standings.

After testing numerous setups in the practice sessions prior to qualifying,
McIntosh felt confident his team had put together a very fast setup. As
qualifying began, the young racer immediately started putting quick laps
together. Just five laps into the session, McIntosh laid down a 1:23.463
(97.394 avg. mph)lap time and earned his No. 24 PR1 Motorsports Van Diemen
Ford, which is sponsored by Kirmac Carstar/Lordco Auto Parts/PPG/Sign Way
Designs and AeroGrafiks, the Provisional pole. From that point on McIntosh’s
time would stand as the fastest of the qualifying session, resulting in his
first track record and his first career pole position in the Zetec
Championship.

"My PR1 race engineers, Bobby Oergel and Andy Garvey put an awesome setup on
my car for qualifying," said an excited Mcintosh. "It feels great to take my
first pole here at Mid-Ohio. I love this track! Mid Ohio is very challenging
to drive, as well as tough to pass on, so starting up front is a real
advantage."

On Sunday, McIntosh was confident that a race win was a real possibility.
With fellow Canadian, J.W. Urlin, of London, Ont., Can., sitting next to him
on the front row, McIntosh knew it would be a drag race out of the famous
Keyhole turn, down to the first corner. Although McIntosh was able to hold
off Urlin, third place qualifier, Tonis Kasemets, ducked under McIntosh at
the end of the straightaway, making it three-wide going into the turn, and
Kasemets made a perfect veteran move in taking over the lead.

"This was my first pole in F2000 and I was concentrating so hard on beating
JW [Urlin] down the straightaway that Tonis [Kasemets] really surprised me
when he came down the inside," said McIntosh. "After that I was able to keep
after Tonis for most of the race, but we were so close in lap times it was
very hard to make up lost ground. Even though I really wanted the win, this
is still a great result and I have to give a lot of the credit to the
entire PR1 team. My mechanic, Brett Harrison, has worked very hard in
preparing the car for me all year, and Bobby Oergel and wife Lisa Rey, the
team owners, put their whole heart and soul into the PR1 race program. For a
young rookie like me, this kind of team makes a big difference when I’m on
the track."

Rounds Nine and Ten of the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship are on
August 10/11 at Mid-Ohio, in conjunction with the CART FedEx Championship
Miller Lite 200.
