6-29 Press Release
June 30, 2002
West Lebanon, NY-Chris Moore captured the victory in the 30-lap DIRT modified
feature at Lebanon Valley Saturday night. It was the first victory of 2002
for the Pound Ridge NY chauffeur. Willie Galm won the 20-lap Sportsman main.
Jim Lagenback picked up the victory in the 20-lap Pro Stock feature. The fine
folks at St. Lawrence Cement and Capital Tractor brought us all the
high-banked excitement on Saturday night.
Ron Blake and Dave Leckonby led the field of thirty modifieds to the
green flag. Brett Hearn and Eddie Marshall made a little contact, as the
field was all bunched up in turn two. The front end on Hearn's mount suffered
extensive damage and was done for the night. Disaster was averted on lap
three when Jason Goff got spun around on the frontstretch. The rest of the
field had to take evasive action and everyone was able to avoid his racer.
Leckonby will begin to feel the pressure from the #20 of Matt Quinn on lap
four. Behind them Denny Soltis and Kenny Tremont were battling for fifth,
with Tremont getting the upper hand on lap ten.
Quinn became the race leader as the field took the crossed flags
signaling halfway. Leckonby, Hector Stratton, Moore and Tremont rounded out
the top five at halfway. Tremont and Soltis got together on lap 16 and Soltis
spun out from the contact. Just as the field was coming down for the restart
Tremont pulled out of line to go to the pits, with a left rear flat tire, as
a result of the incident with Soltis. Tremont lost a lap in the pits and
pulled back out onto the track right behind the top three cars. Rob Pitcher
was looking very strong Saturday night and was fourth by lap 21. Quinn
appeared to slow suddenly and that allowed Stratton to get around for first
as well as Moore for second.
Stratton drifted in turn four as his water pump broke with two laps to go
allowing Moore to get by for the lead and the victory. Pitcher come in second
followed by Quinn, Andy Bachetti and J.R. Heffner. A first and third place
finish made for a good night for Team Overbaugh. With Hearn finishing 30th
and Tremont finishing 20th it allowed Quinn to close in of those two in the
point standings.
Willie Galm to the led right from the start of the 20-lap sportsman
feature. The drivers appeared to be having problems as five caution periods
were required before the halfway point. Art Collins had a right rear go flat
on lap five, he would return to finish ninth. Joe Bennett had not finished
out of the top ten in 2002 in the sportsman division. He got turned around by
Mike Keeler on lap seven and had extensive suspension damage which caused him
to record his first DNF of the season. At the halfway point it was Galm, Ed
Harkin, Lorne Browe, John Scarborough and Roy Bridge. Harkin would slip up
allowing Browe to get by for second. Bridge and Scarborough had a good battle
for third with Bridge retaining the spot on lap 12. Galm had to hold off
several late race charges from Browe but was able to hold off every advance
to pick up his first win in seven years. Browe, Bridge, Scarborough and Frank
Harper were the rest of the top five finishers.
Chris Crews led the early portion of the 20-lap Pro Stock main. Behind
him they were two and three wide from second to tenth. The drivers really put
on an impressive display of driving ability racing side by side for the first
half of the event. Crews was still the race leader at the halfway point with
Rich Colesanti, Adam Haas, Al Blackburn and Lagenback in tow. Lagenback got
by Blackburn on lap 12 for fourth. Paul LaRochelle would spin on lap 13
bringing out the first caution of the race. Rob Yetman suffered a flat tire
in the incident but recovered very nicely for a fourth place finish. Off of
turn two on the restart the battle for the lead went three-wide between
Crews, Haas and Blackburn. Haas would take the lead as Blackburn moved into
second. Blackburn and Crews made contact, which resulted in Crews spinning in
turn two. Blackburn was sent to the rear for his role in the incident. The
really shook up the running order as now Lagenback was second, Speed third
and Colesanti fourth. Lagenback made his way around Haas on lap 16 and went
on to record the victory in his Advance Auto Parts #54L. Haas was second
LaRochelle third, Yetman fourth and Speed fifth.
Kim LaVoy picked up her first career victory in the Rookie Pro Stock
feature. Pure Stock winners on this night included Guy Hughes, Michael
Middleton, Pete Wiegand and D.T. Pickard.
