Woodside Edges Closer to the Top of the Southwest Series
July 1, 2002 (Saugus, Calif.) - Sean Woodside, driver of the #45 Lucas
Oil/Ron's Rear Ends Chevrolet in the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR
Touring, came away from Mesa Marin Raceway's Firecracker 150 in Bakersfield,
Calif. last Saturday with a smaller gap between his second-place points
position and the first-place spot, currently held by fellow competitor Eddy
McKean.
Woodside can overtake the top spot in the Southwest Series points race by
eliminating the 19 markers that stand between him and first-place.
Woodside worked his way forward from a twelfth-row starting spot on the
grid, and was taking over a top-five position when he cut a tire avoiding a
wreck with just five laps to go. Changing a tire under green compromised his
finishing position, but allowed him to finish running and closer to the
points lead.
"It was good to be able to make some progress toward the top, even if we
couldn't bring home a win," said Woodside. "The team lost no time changing
that flat tire. A good, quick pit stop gave us what we needed to get back
out onto the track and finish ahead of our closest competition. I have to
thank my crew for that."
Woodside's primary sponsor, Corona, Calif.-based Lucas Oil Products, is a
world leader in heavy-duty and high-performance lubricants and additives.
