Ward's Reports Estimated Production

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 1 -- Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 96,494 units, down from the 359,119 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 8,868,247 vehicles, up 5.5 percent from like-2001's pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 40,067 vehicles this week, down 85.1 percent from the 268,251 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2002 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 6,474,900 units, up 7.3 percent from the 6,031,790 vehicles built in like-2001.

This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 19,637, a 62.3 percent decrease from the 52,078 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2002 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,432,862 units, up 2.2 percent compared to the 1,402,408 vehicles produced in like-2001.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 0.0 percent; Ford Motor Co., 0.0 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 53.2 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 0.0 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 26.1 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 0.0 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 10.5 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 0.0 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.0 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.0 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 3.1 percent; and other manufacturers, 7.1 percent.
