Tony Kanaan and the #10 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Lola finished
today's CART Grand Prix of Chicago in the eighth position on a hot and humid
day in the Chicago suburb of Cicero, Ill.  He started fourth and immediately
moved past Cristiano da Matta into the third spot on the opening lap around
the Chicago Motor Speedway mile oval amid temperatures that soared well into
the 90s by race time.  Kanaan remained in third until the first round of
scheduled pit stops on Lap 68 of today's 250-lap event and re-emerged in
fifth.  He pitted a second time on Lap 135 and was back in fifth 21 laps
later.  Kanaan was fourth when he came in for his final stop on Lap 203 and,
after a momentary problem with the car's on-board air jack, Kanaan
re-emerged in 11th with several cars that had pitted out of sequence in
front of him.  He picked up three more spots before the checkered flag.  It
was his second eighth-place finish in a row.  He was eighth two weekends ago
at Portland.

For the third race in a row and the fourth time this season, da Matta
brought home the victory with Bruno Junqueira second and Dario Franchitti
third.

The series resumes next weekend with the Molson Indy Toronto, Round 8 of the
2002 CART FedEx Championship Series campaign.  It will be televised live by
CBS beginning at 1:30 p.m. EDT.

"I must say I'm disappointed with an eighth-place finish today.  A few weeks
ago I was just praying for a finish.  Now, I'm praying for a higher finish.
We're human, I guess.  We're never satisfied.  This was definitely one of
the hardest days in a race car that I've had in a long, long time.  It was
very hot and very humid.  My car ran very well on new tires, but it was a
handful as they started to go away.  But that seemed to be the case for
everybody out there.  It was unfortunate that we lost some positions during
our pit stops.  If it's not one thing, it's another. One of these days we're
going to get everything right and it'll be fun to see where we end up.  I
can't wait till that day comes."
