Fuel-Cell and Battery Models Available with SIMPLORER; Models Critical to Advanced Technology Vehicle Research
PITTSBURGH--June 27, 2002--Ansoft Corporation today announced the release of two software models for fuel-cell and lead-acid batteries within SIMPLORER(R). The new models help engineers develop highly efficient vehicle electrical systems, electric and hybrid-electric traction systems, and new 42-volt technology for traditional internal combustion engine vehicles."With the increasing demand for the electrical power in today's cars, trucks, and buses, the design of power-management systems in cars becomes increasingly complex and requires new design methods and sophisticated simulation models," said Uwe Knorr, Ansoft's Product Marketing Manager, System Simulation. "The ability to simulate the fuel cell, the crucial component in electric and hybrid-electric vehicles, or the battery performance within electrical systems of vehicles, will allow researchers to accurately determine the success of the power-management system design without the delay and cost of building a prototype."
Both electrochemical models represent the dynamic behavior of components. Designers can use them as regular electrical components within a circuit. Future versions will include parameterization tools and more detailed models of the battery and fuel cell. With these new models, part of SIMPLORER's automotive component library, engineers can analyze complete electric systems of vehicles or alternative propulsion systems in an easy-to-use, fast, and Windows(R)-based design environment.
