Buckeye State To Be Well Represented At Mid-Ohio This Weekend
DUBLIN, Ohio (June 27, 2002) - Spectators visiting the Mid-Ohio Sports Car
Course this weekend may recognize a familiar face or two when walking
through the paddock area. Competitors with ties from Cleveland to Cincinnati
are scheduled to race in the upcoming American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio weekend,
June 28-30.
Leading the charge will be the Intersport Racing team from Dublin, Ohio. The
Field family, who owns and operates Intersport Racing, will have three
family members driving in the American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio race. Jon Field,
the CEO of Intersport Racing, will be behind the wheel of the Banana Joe's
Lola 675, along with his son Clint Field. This will be the first time that
both Jon and Clint have raced together in the same car this season.
Jon Field has consistently proven his ability to outperform his competitors
in the American Le Mans series, finishing in the top ten in more then half
his starts. Clint Field started his racing career at the age of 16 and
became the youngest driver to compete and finish the 24 hours of Daytona at
age 17. Clint, who graduated just three weeks ago from Dublin Coffman High
School, will make a run for the checkered flag with his dad in the 675
Prototype class. Beside them in the team's second Lola 675 will be Jon's
identical twin brother, Joe Field. Joe is now in his third year with the
team. He currently lives in Marion, Ohio.
B.J. Zacharias, of Cincinnati, is no stranger to Mid-Ohio, winning
back-to-back SCCA national amateur championships in 1997 and 1998 in the
Valvoline Runoffs*. Zacharias returns this weekend to Mid-Ohio Sports Car
Course to compete in the American Le Mans Series GT Class driving for team
Porsche, which is coming off a class win in the recent 24 hours of Le Mans.
Randy Ruhlman, a Cleveland, Ohio native, represents the northern part of the
state this weekend as he drives his Tom Gloy Racing Chevrolet Corvette in
Saturday's Trans-Am Buckeye 100. Ruhlman started the 2002 season with a
sixth place finish in the season opener on the Streets of Long Beach,
California. He carries his momentum into Mid-Ohio for the 4th round of 12
this season for the Trans-Am Series.
Although officially residing in Valencia, California, Bryan Herta returns to
the familiar surroundings of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course once again this
weekend. Herta gained a large fan base in Ohio while racing for Team Rahal
on the CART circuit from 1996-1999. During that time, Herta resided in
Columbus and attended classes at The Ohio State University. Herta now drives
the Panoz Motor Sports team LMP 900 in his first season in the American Le
Mans Series.
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is located approximately halfway between Columbus
and Cleveland, off of Interstate 71. Commonly referred to as the "Most
Competitive in the U.S.", Mid-Ohio hosts six events throughout the summer.
