GM Canada to build 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix
TORONTO, June 26 Reuters reported that General Motors of Canada said on Wednesday June 26, 2002 that it will build the new Pontiac Grand Prix at its Oshawa, Ontario, assembly plant, adding another line of cars to its award-winning facility.
GM Canada, a division of General Motors Corp., said its Plant 2 will build the 2004 model of the vehicle, which goes on sale next spring. It will continue to assemble the Buick Century and Regal.
"This announcement is a clear statement that the workers have made an enormous commitment and contribution through their high quality, skilled labor and hard work to the success of this company," Buzz Hargrove, president of the Canadian Auto Workers, said in a release.
The massive Oshawa facility, which boasts one truck and two car assembly plants, has scored a series of industry awards in recent months for productivity.
Earlier this year the carmaker also said it will add another shift in Oshawa to build the Chevrolet Impala.
