ION Sponsors the Goo Goo Dolls
FOR RELEASE: June 25, 2002Saturn Makes Noise For ION Through Music Tour Sponsorship
Detroit – General Motors’ Saturn unit will make some noise this summer to help launch its new ION small cars by sponsoring the Goo Goo Dolls summer shed tour, with Third Eye Blind and Vanessa Carlton as special guests.
The nationwide tour will kick off July 29 at the Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix, AZ, continuing through the middle of September. This is Saturn's first music tour sponsorship.
“This is an exciting collection of artists, and we’re pleased to take the Saturn ION on the road with them,” said Jill Lajdziak, vice president of Saturn sales, service and marketing. “The new Saturn ION line allows self-expression, so music was a natural association for the product. The tour will help generate awareness among younger buyers that Saturn has designed a product for them.”
America's premier rock band, the Goo Goo Dolls, released its seventh studio album April 9, 2002 on Warner Bros. Records, titled Gutterflower. The first single "Here Is Gone" was the number one added single on the modern rock, rock, Top 40 and adult alternative charts the first week. The video by Francis Lawrence can be seen both on MTV and VH-1. Gutterflower follows up the band's multi-platinum release Dizzy Up The Girl, which sold over 5 million copies worldwide and spawned number one hits, such as "Iris" and "Slide."
The Saturn ION sedan and Quad Coupe – a coupe with two rear access doors – are large-sized small cars that offer opportunities for personalization through changeable exterior and interior components in a variety of patterns. The innovative vehicles provide a high level of safety, functionality and fun, responsive performance. ION sedan production begins this fall, followed by the Quad Coupe early next year.
The music tour was organized and will be run by Entertainment Marketing, Inc., a 17- year-old event and lifestyle marketing company based in Chicago.
