Law Earns Another Podium Finish at Six Hours of The Glen

Law Earns Another Podium Finish at Six Hours of The Glen

ELMIRA, New York (June 23, 2002) - Sunday's 6 Hours of The Glen race went better than expected for Rolex Sports Car Series driver Darren Law in one aspect and not-quite-as-planned in another.

Law picked up right where he left off in the GT class at Watkin's Glen International Raceway this weekend.

Law was completely at ease when climbed behind the wheel of the #81 G&W Motorsports/Martini Racing (formerly the #80 car) Porsche GT3-R. It was the sister car to the #81 Porsche in which he won the GT Championship with last season.

Sharing driving duties with G&W teammate Brent Martini, the duo's second-place finish marked Law's third consecutive podium finish at the 6 Hours of The Glen.

"This car was absolutely flawless," Law said. "We had a great run with no problems. Once again, G&W prepared a great car for us to compete in."

Unfortunately, Law's primary car, the #07 Momentum Motorcars/G&W Motorsports Picchio Prototype didn't have the same luck. The team tried several times to get the car to fire, but was unsuccessful.

"We had an electrical problem with the Picchio," Law said. "The ECU unit was fried from the motor and the car wouldn't start. We realized it about 20 minutes before the race, so there wasn't time to fix it. It's very unfortunate we had to miss the entire race."

Law was supposed to pull triple duty for his G&W Motorsports team at the historic 2.45-mile road course, as he also competed in the Grand-Am Race on Saturday.

He put the #01 G&W Motorsports/Jennifer Fund Porsche Cup car on the pole for the Grand-Am Cup race on Saturday. Although he and teammate Danny Marshall finished seventh, Law was very pleased with the finish.

"The car was great," Law said. "I always going out and competing with Danny and Steve. We have a lot of fun out there."

Law's next stop will be at G&W's home track, Virginia International Raceway, this weekend for the Grand-Am Cup event. He will once again team up with Steve Marshall in the #01 Porsche Cup car.

"I am happy to be going to VIR," Law said. "Even though G&W's shop is located there, I have never competed on that track. It's a beautiful part of the country and I am really looking forward to going."
