20th ANNUAL SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE HISTORIANS'
"LITERATURE FAIRE" - SUNDAY, JUNE 30 - IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY

Irwindale, Calif. - - The largest, best-attended, and by far the funnest (is that a word? … Well, it really applies here) automotive literature event in the world is set to take place Sunday, June 30 on the grounds of Irwindale Speedway. For the record, the proper title of the event is the Society of Automotive Historians, Southern California Chapter 20th Annual Literature Faire & Exchange.

"This is the single largest show of it's kind anywhere. We allow only automotive-related literature and collectibles. There is no telling what the hot items will be this year," said SoCal SAH Director Harold Osmer, "Most vendors are private individuals and bring only a portion of their collection with them, so the savvy buyer should ask direct questions when looking for specific items."

With sellers and buyers from all over the United States and Europe converging on Irwindale for this one-day-only event, the Literature Faire is unsurpassed in both the quantity and quality of the materials offered, both old and new.

If it was printed and its about automobiles; racing, classics, vintage, new, used, or you-name-it, fans are likely to find it at this year's annual gathering of the motoring faithful.

Perusers will find tech manuals, manuscripts, first editions, advertising broadsides, post cards, brochures, photo collections, window signs, showroom cutouts, magazines, press kits, racing annuals, fine art, posters, books, a special Author's Table sponsored by the Motor Press Guild where visitors may acquire personalized copies of well-know writer's recent offerings, and … This year, by popular request, the SAH has included a "Modelers' Corner" just for scale car collectors where they can expect some "VERY interesting" items.

Fans and collectors, will just have to visit Irwindale on June 30 to see the scene for themselves. With over 140 vendors spread out on over eight of the track's 63 acres, the Literature Faire has got to be a certified car nut's Shangri La, Valhalla and Seventh Heaven all rolled into one and arrayed (not very neatly) before them.

Irwindale Speedway donates the facility use and some volunteer workers, the parking is free, and admission to the event is free to the public. All proceeds from rentals of the vendor spaces goes toward the educational efforts of the SAH. Of course, as with any good memorabilia show (… and this one is a great one), all the good stuff will go fast, and the early bird gets the treasure. The show opens at 7am and is well and truly "all over" by the time that the 1 o'clock closing bell sounds. Irwindale's popular raceway snackbar will be in operation early for the convenience of both show-ers and shoppers.

One more thing … Some words of advice from the "pros" at this kind of thing: "Comfortable shoes, cash in pocket, layered clothing, good sun protection (this is a partially "al fresco" buying experience) and MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you see something that you really want (make that NEED), bargain for it and buy it when you first come upon it. Trying to remember where it was in this vast collection of automotive wonderment is tough enough, and coming back to get it later invariably disappoints when the precious item has already been snagged by some sharper-eyed-than-thou shopper.

With acres of unique automotive items, over 2,000 (free!) parking places, free admission, and a location that's freeway easy (605 Freeway at Live Oak Avenue) for everyone in southern California, the 20th edition of the SAH Literature Faire and Exchange is a guaranteed "best seller" on just about everyone's list!
