CASCAR - Mosport Oval Preview

CASCAR Super Series

For immediate release / June 20, 2002

Dilley looks for another top finish at Mosport

LONDON, ON - Less than a week after the first road course race of the
season, the CASCAR Super Series returns to action at Mosport this Saturday
night (June 22). This time, the drivers and teams will focus their
attention on the half-mile Mosport Speedway oval, for the 'Exide presents
the Mosport Speedway 250'.
Approaching the midway point of the 12-race 2002 season, DJ Kennington and
Mark Dilley find themselves atop the point standings. Each has accumulated
601 points over the course of the first four events. Additionally, each has
made more than one podium appearance in this young season, while displaying
incredible consistency during May and June.
In Dilley's case, he's returning to the Mosport oval as the defending
winner of the event. Last June, the NTN Taurus racer ended an extended
personal winless streak with his Mosport victory. And even though he would
gladly take another win, this time around, the Barrie, ON racer says his
primary goal is to continue the pattern of collecting top finishes, that
he's established so far in '02.
"I'm pretty excited about going back to the Mosport oval. I think we'll
have a good car again. Our goal, though, is to get a good finish. We just
want to keep finishing races."
Commenting on his string of top-four finishes - made up of two third-place
and two fourth-place results - in this season's four events, Dilley is
justifiably proud.
"We're really happy about that. The program is going well this year. The
new chassis dyno at Whitlock Motorsports has been a big help. We just want
to stay consistent and finish every lap we can."
Among those hoping to spoil Dilley's plans for a top finish at Mosport
will be drivers like Kennington and defending Super Series champion Don
Thomson Jr. In Kennington's case, he put on a furious challenge, late in
last year's race, only to finish second to Dilley.
Thomson sits third in the points, just eight points back of the lead duo.
The Home Hardware Chevy driver put on a dominant performance to win the
Mosport Speedway oval race in 2000.

MOSPORT SCHEDULE: Time trials for the 'Exide Batteries presents the Mosport
Speedway 250' are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday (June 22)
afternoon. The Final Qualifier race, to set the remainder of the starting
field, will take place at 4:40, and will be immediately followed by the
Driver Autograph Session.
Dan Clancy, the lead singer of the Juno award-winning band 'Lighthouse'
will perform both the American and Canadian national anthems, prior to the
start of the 250-lap feature race, which is scheduled to take the green
flag at 7:00 p.m.

CASCAR BROADCASTS: The second race of the CASCAR Super Series season, the
Logel's Auto Parts 200 from Peterborough Speedway, will have its inaugural
airing on Sportsnet on Monday, June 24. The race, which was won by Castrol
Intrepid driver DJ Kennington, will be on at 8:00 p.m. in the EAST, ONTARIO
and WEST regions, and at 5:00 p.m. in the PACIFIC zone. It will be shown
again on Tuesday (June 25) afternoon in all of the above regions.
