Thinkpath Expands Into IETM Market; Technical Manuals Go Digital

TORONTO--June 19, 2002--In an cutting edge industry where creating advanced weapon systems with efficient defense budgets are essential, more capable solutions for technical documentation and training systems are in high demand. Thinkpath Inc., , a market leader in IT and Engineering Knowledge Management solutions, has the technical expertise to offer clients superior IETM solutions.
IETM stands for Interactive Electronic Technical Manual. It is a means of storing, accessing, and displaying technical data, creating a much more functional, light-weight and cost efficient method of documentation. IETMs are used primarily to support complex technical systems such as diagnostics, maintenance, and repair data often found in advanced military/defense systems and aerospace components. An Interactive Electronic Technical Manual system allows a user to locate required information faster and more easily than paper technical manuals. IETMs are easier to comprehend and are available in a form that requires much less physical storage space than paper. Powerful interactive troubleshooting procedures, not possible with paper technical manuals, are made available using the intelligent features of the IETM display device.
IETMs are expected to become a growing part of Thinkpath's future business. Thinkpath offers end-to-end solutions in the creation, update, tracking, delivery, and display of technical information that is very attractive to current clients and defense/military industry companies.
"Working closely with our clients and realizing the competitive environments in which they lead, has allowed us to focus on the growing demand for efficient IETM solutions," says Declan French, Chairman and CEO of Thinkpath Inc.
The Defense Department initiated the Continuous Acquisition and Lifecycle Support (CALS) program several years ago to improve the electronic interchange of digital technical data among the military services. This initiative, which predated much of the technology now used on the Web, defines a set of standard formats for storage and delivery of information. The main point of the standards is to make sure the information will be accessible over a long term, regardless of changing technology. To solve this problem, these standards require the delivery of data in "neutral structures" that are not tied to any particular software or hardware system, or to any particular style of presentation. This approach has the added benefit of permitting information to be immediately used on a variety of operating systems and applications that support the standard.
