Texans See Lower Gas Prices for Summer Travel Season; AAA Texas Fuel Gauge Report

HOUSTON--June 19, 2002--Texans see lower fuel prices as summer travel season approaches, according to AAA Texas' Fuel Gauge Report.
The statewide average price for regular self-serve is $1.30, 22-cents less than last year's average price of $1.52 a gallon.
The city with the least expensive gasoline is San Antonio at $1.24 a gallon, followed by Corpus Christi ($1.26) and Amarillo ($1.26). Dallas tops the list with the most expensive fuel in Texas at $1.36 a gallon.
The nationwide average price of self-serve regular gasoline is $1.39, compared to last June's average price of $1.63 a gallon. "Gas prices have remained stable since April, when the nationwide average settled near $1.40 a gallon," said Rose Rougeau, AAA Texas spokesperson.
"This summer, lower gas prices should make summer trips during the Fourth of July holiday more affordable," added Rougeau.
AAA's Fuel Gauge Report is based on data from the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) - the nation's most comprehensive source of petroleum pricing information.
AAA Texas, an affiliate of the American Automobile Association, has been serving Texans since 1902. AAA Texas offers its members a full service travel agency, auto-related and financial services, as well as public safety programs and legislative advocacy.
