USAR Returns to Indianapolis Raceway Park
Series Return to Historic Town for Second Consecutive Year
Clermont, IN - The USAR Hooters ProCup Series will return to Indianapolis Raceway Park on Saturday June 22 for the running of the Kroger 250 presented by Lucas Oil. Last year Sean Studer was the winner of a race held on a very unseasonably cold and damp night in Indiana.
Mardy Lindley and Jeff Agnew are two of the drivers who finished in the top-10 last year. Both are competing full-time in the USAR Northern Division this season. Lindley has had early season success during qualifying, winning four early season Sunoco Pole Awards out of the first five races. Agnew and Lindley have each collected a win so far in 2002.
Lindley won the season-opening race at Jennerstown Speedway for the Northern Division and Agnew collected his fourth career win at Holland International Speedway. Last year the race was delayed almost two hours by a cold, driving rain that challenged every team.
"Last year the weather didn't cooperate to much for us," said Lindley. "We had a good run there and hopefully we can improve one spot in the final standings."
Lindley led 36 laps during the race before Sean Studer passed for the lead on lap 147 and remained out front for the final 53 laps.
"I like running on the bigger tracks in our Series," said Lindley. "The groove seems to be a little higher at IRP than other tracks. We ran up front and led some laps but as the race went on we got a little loose. Hopefully we can make some adjustments and get out front and challenge for the win."
Agnew qualified fourth and remained in the top-10 all night before finishing third. Another driver excited about returning to IRP is Jason McLellan. The Canadian driver from Mount Forest, Ontario, has enjoyed an improved season that has featured him in the top-10 throughout the race before mechanical or tire problems have kept him out of victory lane.
Indianapolis Raceway Park is located outside of Indianapolis, Indiana in Clermont and this will be the second consecutive year the track has hosted the USAR Hooters ProCup Series. In addition to the ProCup cars competing, the NAMARS midget cars will also be featured in a race.
The Kroger 250 will begin at 7:30 pm with the NAMARS midget race to immediately follow. For more information please contact IRP at (317) 291-4090.
